Police arrest 30 Chinese nationals in illegal online gambling raid

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested 30 Chinese nationals, suspected of promoting illegal online gambling activities, in a raid at an apartment in Kajang, yesterday.

Selangor Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice (D7) Division staff officer Deputy Superintendent Azmi Shukor said 24 men and six women, age between 20 and 35, were picked up in the 2.30pm raid.

He said checks showed the syndicate was mostly targeting victims in China through the WeChat application.

"The syndicate was also promoting illegal online gambling based in Malaysia using a website identified as www.npro11.com," he told reporters at the scene.

Azmi said investigations found that the syndicate had been carrying out the activities from two rented apartment units for the past month.

The suspects, he said, failed to provide valid travel documents and had misused their social visit passes.

"Police also seized 30 laptops and 76 mobile phones in the raid." he added. -- Bernama
