Another newborn thrown from window, this time in Ipoh

IPOH: A baby boy, with his umbilical cord still attached, was found alive and covered in blood on the roof of a house in Taman Seri Dermawan, Bercham here, yesterday.

The baby is believed to have been thrown out of a second-floor bedroom window in a neighbouring house by a 16-year-old girl, believed to his mother.

The baby, who sustained head injuries, is in critical condition and undergoing treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here.

"A witness, who is also the suspect's neighbour, heard a loud thud at the back of his house and found the baby," Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said, adding that police were informed of the situation at 12.35pm.

He said blood stains were found on the window grille and bedsheets in the girl's bedroom.

"The suspect was brought to hospital for treatment. No statement has been recorded from the teenager as she is still weak due to bleeding from giving birth," he added.

In Farlim, Penang, last Friday, a newborn was flung to its death out a 13th floor apartment unit by an 18-year-old college student, believed to be its mother.

She has been charged with murder.
