KOTA BARU: A mentally-ill man caused a stir in a mobile phone shop here yesterday afternoon when he flashed his private parts at a female sales assistant.
At the time of the incident, three workers were in the shop, including the 31-year-old female sales assistant.
Kelantan Criminal Investigations Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Khairuddin Wan Idris said based on the police report lodged by the woman, the man did not have any trousers on when he entered the shop at Jalan Pintu Pong.
The woman claimed the man, wearing only a T-shirt, was holding his private parts when he entered, which prompted the three shop staff to flee and call the police.
It is understood that the incident was captured on the store's CCTV camera.
Wan Khairuddin said police arrived at the scene soon after to bring the half-naked man into custody.
"The suspect's mother told the police that her son has been suffering from mental illness for a long time. He has been receiving treatment," he said.
He said police sent the suspect, who is from Pintu Pong, to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for an evaluation.
The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for intending to insult the modesty of another person.
