369 people busted for breaking SOP

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 369 people were arrested yesterday for breaching the standard operating procedures (SOP) in place to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

Of the total, 330 were served with compounds, 37 remanded while two were freed on bail, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Topping the list of offences were involvement in activities at entertainment centres (155), failure to provide materials to record visitors' details at premises (77), failure to wear face masks (39), no physical distancing (34), making inter-district and interstate travel without permission (29), premises operating after hours or without approval (20) and others (15).

Ismail Sabri, who is also the Defence Minister, said the police compliance task force conducted over 66,000 inspections on various premises such as restaurants (6,206), markets (4,672), banks (2,613), traders (4,278), factories (2,316) and government buildings (1,023).

The multi-enforcement agency Ops Benteng, he said, saw the arrests of 35 illegal foreigners and the seizure of five land vehicles.

Ops Benteng also mounted 264 roadblocks nationwide.

Ismail Sabri said 801 Malaysians returned to the country yesterday and were sent to designated quarantine stations nationwide.

Until July 24, a total of 141,424 Malaysians have returned home and were placed at 76 hotels, 10 public training institutions as well as private learning institutions nationwide.

"Of the number, 6,969 of them were quarantined and 133,441 were given permission to go home while 1,014 were sent to hospitals," said Ismail Sabri.
