Man hits wife, daughter with chair for not closing house door

TASEK GELUGOR: For not closing the house door, a man went berserk and hit his wife and daughter with a chair at their house in Taman Desa Sena here yesterday.

In the 11.45am incident, the 44-year-old man was said to have flown into a rage when his teenage daughter did not close the house door.

Unexpectedly, he took a chair from the living room and hit his 19-year-old daughter with it.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said his 51-year-old wife, who saw the incident, tried to stop her husband but was also hit in the process.

He said the incident left both women with body aches before the wife lodged a police report after the man threatened to kill her.

"The couple have been married for 20 years and staying in a double-storey house purchased by the wife, who works as a government officer.

"The suspect is formerly from the army and now works in a factory. They have not been on talking terms for the last year although staying in the same house," he said today.

According to Noorzainy, the suspect, who is a Muslim covert, often beat his wife and children when there is any misunderstanding.

However, it was never reported to the police.

The couple have issues with their marriage and have been living apart, with the suspect occupying the downstairs room while his wife, the first floor.

Noorzainy said, acting on the report, police went to the scene at about 2.10pm and arrested the suspect for further action.

"Based on initial investigations, the suspect admitted to hitting his wife and daughter with the chair," he added.

The case is probed under Sections 324/506 of the Penal Code.
