Spousal strife: Man allegedly assaults wife over door slamming dispute

KUALA LUMPUR: A man allegedly resorted to physical assault against his wife during a disagreement over a slamming door.

The 40-year-old woman was alleged to have closed the door forcefully in their residence at Taman Maju Jaya, which had irked her 45-year-old husband.

Ampang Jaya's district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail, said the victim lodged a police report at 2am on Monday.

During the altercation, the suspect reportedly struck the victim with his hands, causing pain and bruises on her hands, legs, and body.

"A medical examination at the Ampang Hospital revealed soft tissue injuries on the victim's right hand, the middle finger of the right hand and the right leg," he said in a statement.

He said a police team detained the man at the compound of the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters at 5.25pm.

"Urine tests on the suspect came back negative, and he has no previous records."

Azam said police would apply for the remand order on the man at the Ampang Court today.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act for legal protection in situations of domestic violence and matters incidental to it.
