Siblings charged with making death threats and injuring woman [NSTTV]

IPOH: Two siblings were separately charged at the Magistrate's Court here today with issuing death threats and causing injury to a woman, early this month.

S. Gunasilan, 35 and his sister, S. Eswari, 42 however pleaded not guilty when the charges were read before Magistrate Nur Melati Diana Abdul Wahab and Magistrate Khir Nizam Jemari.

In Nur Melati Diana's court, Gunasilan was accused of issuing death threats against K. Shanmuga Priya, 38.

The offence was committed at Khalisa Restaurant on Jalan Raja Perempuan Mazwin here at 3.10pm on Oct 5.

He may find himself jailed up to seven years, fined, or sentenced to both penalties if found guilty under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, in front of Khir Nizam, Eswari was accused of voluntarily causing injury to Shanmuga Priya, who is also her former employer.

She was accused of committing the offence at the same place and time.

If convicted, she faces up to one year's jail, or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Syahirah Azahar and Amalina Harun prosecuted while Gunasilan and Eswari were represented by lawyers, Mohd Khazali Yin and Mahinderjit Singh, respectively.

The court set bail at RM2,000 in one surety for Gunasilan; and bail at RM1,500 bail for his sister with the additional condition that they are forbidden from approaching the victim.

The court fixed Nov 21 and 29 for mention of both cases.
