Najib lodges report over alleged attempts to conceal evidence in his 1MDB case

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today lodged a report urging police to investigate alleged attempts by Pakatan Harapan administration to conceal material evidence from him in relation to the 1Malysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.

Najib said he was disappointed why no investigation agency revealed the involvement of the former Bank Negara governor's family in the 1MDB case.

"Most Malaysians were shocked with confirmation by MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) last week that a balance RM65 million funds reportedly linked to Jho Low and 1MDB which was returned to Malaysia by Singaporean authorities had some connection to the immediate family of a former central bank governor.

"No one can be more disappointed than me as no investigation had ever revealed the governor's family links to Jho Low or their dealings as I had fully trusted her during my time as the prime minister," he told reporters after lodging the report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters today.

He said he was more disappointed with the revelation by former Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas that he was aware of such transactions during his time in office.

"Law Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi (Tuanku Jaafar)'s revealed in Parliament last Monday that the police knew about this since at least 2019, under the previous Pakatan Harapan regime but were still investigating until now - almost the end of 2021.

"Such information was never made known to me and my legal team for use in my defence in court despite such information being material to my defence in both my SRC and 1MDB cases.

"I was also made aware that another key prosecution witness in my SRC case had similarly received more than RM85 million directly linked to 1MDB and again me and my legal team were not told about this despite the individual playing key roles in the SRC case.

"Therefore, I am making a report to ask the police to investigate if there were deliberate attempts to conceal material evidence from me and all Malaysians by certain current and former key individuals in the AGC and MACC appointed during the PH administration."
