KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will work with the health authorities to investigate any cases of fraudulent vaccination certificates in the state.
Referring to the arrest of a man who allegedly bribed volunteers to issue the certificates for unvaccinated people, its director Datuk S Karunanithy said they would exchange information with the state Health Department.
The man is alleged to have offered RM2,250 for the issuance of fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates on the MySejahtera app to three non-vaccinated members of the public.
Yesterday, the magistrate's court here issued a seven-day remand for the 31-year-old jobless man as MACC had requested more time to investigate and trace other possible suspects in the syndicate.
Asked whether there would be more arrests, Karunanithy said there would be no more for now and that the man was likely working alone.
Meanwhile, in another event, Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the existence of such a syndicate was sad as it was an act that sabotaged the efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Police should take action and bring the offenders to court. As for those who bought the certificates, they should come forward to get the vaccine.
"I do understand some have reservations (about the vaccination) following the number of anti-vaccine campaigns.
"But, we need to think that life should continue based on science and technology," he said.
