Balik Pulau rape suspect caught after 12 years

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a 40-year-old man in a goat farm in Balik Pulau, Penang on Friday in connection to a rape case that had gone cold for 12 years.

The arrest was made after forensics investigations using DNA data had successfully identified the suspect in the case involving a 15-year-old girl, who had been raped in a workshop in Sungai Pinang, Balik Pulau, 12 years ago.

Federal police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said the man in question is currently being remanded until April 12 for investigations for rape under the Penal Code.

Jalil said the identification proved that the police force does not give up on any case until criminals are brought to court.

"We are now completing the investigation and investigation papers will be given to the attorney-general for further action," he said in a statement here today.
