Buon Viaggio!...Shafee's off to Italy

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhamaad Shafee Abdullah has succeeded in his application to reclaim his passport as he needs to visit his daughters in Italy.

Judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin today allowed the senior lawyer's application to temporarily get back his passport from July 8 until Aug 11.

Shafee in his application said he is seeking for the temporary release of his passport to handle his daughter's school transfer matters from the International School for Europe in Milan to The International School of Kuala Lumpur.

The senior lawyer also wants to visit his eldest daughter who is now furthering her studies at the John Cabot University in Rome, Italy.

He was ordered to return the passport to the court by Aug 12 after returning from Italy.

The prosecution did not object to the application.

Shafee was represented by lawyer Wee Yeong Kang and Deputy Public Prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz appeared for the prosecution.

Shafee, 70, is facing two counts of money-laundering related to a RM9.5 million payment he received from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak

He was also charged under the Income Tax Act with two counts of making false declarations to the Inland Revenue Board for not including the RM9.5 million in his tax filing, for the years 2013 and 2014.

The Umno lawyer pleaded not guilty to all four charges on Sept 13, 2018. He was released on a RM1 million bail and his passport was also impounded.
