Jobless man arrested after threatening to kill wife for filing divorce

KUALA LUMPUR: A 35-year-old unemployed man was arrested last night for allegedly making death threats against his wife who had filed for a divorce.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the woman received a call from her husband, whom she had filed for divorce, who wanted to meet her at 6pm on Tuesday (Aug 16) at Ampang Waterfront.

"The suspect threatened the complainant by saying that he would make sure that she 'dies or be disabled for the rest of her life'.

"The complainant was worried for her life following the threats," he said in a statement today.

He said the Ampang Jaya Criminal Investigations Department subsequently arrested a man from a flat in Kampung Baru Air Panas at 9pm yesterday.

"The man was upset after learning that the complainant had filed for a divorce. Checks showed that he has a past record for drug offence," he said, adding that the man has been remanded till Aug 22 under Section 506 of the Penal Code to assist in investigation.
