Lokman Adam charged again for uploading insulting posts on Facebook [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam has landed in hot water again for posting insulting remarks on social media.

Lokman, 49, pleaded not guilty to the charges read to him before Sessions Court Judge Nor Hasniah Ab Razak.

He was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum one-year imprisonment or RM50,000 fine or both upon conviction.

Lokman was alleged to have uploaded two separate Facebook posts, insulting and alleging that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri had conspired with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to convict Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Lokman was alleged to have uploaded the social media posts on Aug 20 at 11.16pm and Aug 22 at 10.28pm.

Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Mohamad Izhar and Iznina Hanim pleaded for the court to order RM15,000 bail for each charge and to impose a gag order on Lokman, restricting him from discussing the merits of his cases on social media.

Lawyer Logen Eskandar then pleaded for the court to consider imposing RM2,000 bail for each charge, as Lokman is now working as a satay seller with an uncertain salary and has 11 kids to care for.

Judge Nor Hasniah then ordered RM8,000 bail for each charge, and imposed a gag order on Lokman.

The court fixed Sept 26 for case mention.
