Suspects in kidnapping case remanded three more days

KOTA BARU: Police obtained an additional three-day remand order against the husband of a cosmetics agent who was abducted on Tuesday.

The remand extension order which ends on Tuesday (Sept 20), was obtained at the Tumpat magistrate's court under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Kelantan acting police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said police also obtained a three-day remand extension on a smuggler and a woman who were arrested together with the victim's 36-year-old husband.

The initial four-day remand order against all three ended today.

"The trio were detained separately on Sept 13 and the following day to assist police investigation into the abduction of the 36-year-old woman," he said today.

On Tuesday, four men in a car abducted the cosmetics agent from her home in Kampung Semat Jal near Palekbang at about 5.10pm.

Following the incident, Tumpat police mounted a large operation to track down the suspects.

As a result, three people, including the victim's husband, were detained to assist investigation into the case.

Police believe a feud among drug syndicate members led to the abduction of the woman.

The three suspects were also believed to have ties with a drug syndicate.

Police also found the vehicle, which was believed to have been used in the kidnapping abandoned near an illegal jetty in Kuala Jambu, Tumpat.
