IGP: Cosmetics agent kidnapped in Kelantan rescued, safely returned home

KUALA LUMPUR: The woman who was kidnapped in Tumpat, Kelantan, more than two weeks ago has been rescued and safely returned home.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said a team of policemen from federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman worked closely with the Royal Thai Police to rescue the woman from where she was being held captive in Thailand.

The cosmetics agent had been brought there after being kidnapped on Sept 13.

"The woman was finally rescued by the authorities and brought back to Malaysia today (Thursday)," said Acryl Sani.

"We managed to successfully solve the case with the arrest of seven locals, believed to be the abductors.

"This success was made possible thanks to the joint investigation, information sharing and close cooperation between Malaysian police and our counterparts in Thailand."

Acryl Sani thanked the Royal Thai police and the Malaysian Consulate in Thailand for the cooperation and assistance provided throughout the rescue operation.

"The seven suspects allegedly involved in the abduction were picked up from Kelantan, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur and the case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961", he said in a statement.

Police also confiscated the vehicle believed to have been used in the abduction.

Earlier, it was reported that a cosmetics agent had been abducted by a group of men in Tumpat on Sept 13, after a misunderstanding between the victim's husband and a group of men.

In the course of investigation, police got wind that the abducted victim was taken to Thailand.

Several people, reportedly including the victim's husband, had been detained earlier.
