KUALA LUMPUR: The Magistrate Court today granted a three-day remand order to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against an individual named 'Datuk Roy' to assist investigations relating to the Jana Wibawa scandal.
Magistrate Noorelyna Hanim Abd Halim granted the order, that begins today unil March 16, for authorities to carry out their investigation against the individual.
The individual, whose registered name is Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, 54, is alleged to be the key mastermind behind the Jana Wibawa corruption scandal.
He arrived at Jalan Duta courthouse around 10am this morning, in orange MACC lock-up clothes and escorted by an officer.
Earlier, MACC officer Ahmad Ashraf requested the court to grant a seven-day remand on the individual. He said 'Datuk Roy' is being investigated under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
However, Ahmad Ashraf's request was rebutted by lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin, who represented 'Datuk Roy' who said that the reasons given to back the request were not concrete.
It was reported yesterday that 'Datuk Roy' surrendered himself to the KL MACC at around 3pm, after he went to the office to have his statement taken. This was confirmed by MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki last night.
On March 9, the MACC arrested four individuals, including an MACC officer and a woman, aged between 40 and 50, for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes worth RM400,000 to halt an investigation into the Jana Wibawa case.
