Manoj Kurup appointed AGC's head of prosecution

KUALA LUMPUR: Manoj Kurup, the current head of the Attorney-General's Chambers' (AGC) appeal and trial division, will lead the prosecution division from April 3.

Manoj, 59, will replace Nik Suhaimi Nik Sulaiman, who retired in February.

This was confirmed by a circular signed by Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun that was issued yesterday (March 16).

Manoj briefly headed the prosecution division during the tenure of former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas.

Manoj's current deputy head Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar will be taking over as the head of the AGC's appellate and trial division, effective April 3.

The prosecution division deals extensively with the public and key law enforcement agencies.

The division exercises the powers of the Attorney General as the Public Prosecutor in accordance with section 376 of the Criminal Procedure Code [Act 593].

Deputy Public Prosecutors (DPPs) from the division conduct prosecutions in all Session and Magistrate Courts nationwide, including high-profile criminal cases.

The division also gives advice and instructions to all enforcement agencies in relation to investigations and criminal prosecutions.

Besides that, DPPs also pursue investigation papers to decide whether to institute prosecutions.
