"Datuk Roy" released on bail

PUTRAJAYA: Two individuals remanded by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist investigations into the Jana Wibawa scandal have been released on bail this morning.

The two are; Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, also known as "Datuk Roy", who is suspected to be the mastermind behind the scandal and a former deputy court registrar, who was previously detained for soliciting RM2 million bribe to resolve MACC probe on a businessman who was charged in relation to the case.

Lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin, who represents both individuals confirmed that they have been released from remand before Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin at Magistrate court, here, today.

Mohd Hussein, 54, was remanded by the MACC since March 16.

He was remanded to assist into MACC's investigations into the scandal, that saw three Bersatu leaders and a businessman to be charged in court.

Meanwhile the former deputy court registrar was detained by MACC since March 17.

Fahmi told reporters that an MACC investigating officer who appeared in court for the proceeding today said the anti-graft body had obtained the necessary statements from his clients.

The investigating officer also said that both individual had cooperated well with MACC while under remand and that they could be recalled at any time to assist with further investigations.

Fahmi also confirmed that both his clients had been released on MACC bail with one surety, respectively, and that they, each, have to report themselves at the MACC office once a month.
