'Datuk Roy' remanded for four more days

PUTRAJAYA: The remand order against an individual known as "Datuk Roy", who is suspected to be the mastermind behind the Jana Wibawa scandal, was extended for another four days.

Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin granted the extension of the remand order, which will last until March 20.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigating officer Muhammad Ariff Badrolsham requested for a seven-day remand order against "Datuk Roy", or Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, 54.

However, this was rebutted by lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin, who represented the accused. Fahmi said there was no need for the remand order to be extended as the latter would continue to assist in investigations.

The Kuala Lumpur magistrate's court previously granted a three-day remand order against Datuk Roy from March 14 to 16.

It was reported on March 13 that Datuk Roy surrendered himself to the MACC office here at 3pm, after he went there to have his statement taken.

On March 9, MACC arrested four people, including an MACC officer and a woman, aged between 40 and 50, for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes worth RM400,000 to halt an investigation into the Jana Wibawa case.
