Jobless men charged with disposing a stolen vehicle

KOTA KINABALU: Two men wanted for multiple crimes in the state and in the Peninsula were jointly charged at the magistrate's court here with disposing a stolen vehicle.

Ali Rosli Baru, 36, and Mohammad Raqib Abdul Karim, 39, both unemployed, pleaded not guilty before magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles.

The duo denied disposing a stolen Nissan Navara in Taman Nelly, Lorong Buah Pala, Inanam, between 7am and 8am on March 8,

The offence under Section 414 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34 of the same Code, provides for imprisonment up to seven years and a fine, upon conviction.

The court fixed April 28 for case management, and they were granted bail of RM1,500, with two local sureties.

The court also ordered both accused to report themselves once every two weeks to the investigation officer, as requested by the prosecution.

Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik prosecuted while counsel Nelson Angang represented the two men.

It was reported that the duo were involved in several housebreaking cases in the state. The latest was a burglary at a vehicle showroom on March 6.

They allegedly broke into the car showroom at Jalan Lintas Kepayan and fled with two four-wheel-drive vehicles.

They sold one of the vehicles for RM10,000 to a local man while hiding the other stolen car behind a supermarket in Manggatal, not far from the state capital.

The duo then allegedly went to Selangor for a holiday. The men were nabbed by police at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport on March 15 upon their return.

The two men were also allegedly involved in several housebreaking cases in the Peninsula.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said with their arrest; police had cracked at least seven cases in Sabah and Selangor.
