Police to summon organisers of Labour Day rallies

KUALA LUMPUR: The organisers of the two Labour Day rallies here will be summoned by the Dang Wangi police soon.

Dang Wangi district police chief, ACP Noor Dellhan Yahaya said police are investigating two illegal assemblies and march that took place today in front of Maju Junction and Sogo Complex, here.

He said the 10am rally saw some 200 supporters on a march along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman towards Medan Pasar.

Noor Dellhan said the second rally took place in front of Sogo Complex in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman with about 30 supporters seen gathering at about noon.

"The unauthorised assembly and march were held in violation of the law as the organisers did not apply any permit 10 days before the gatherings, as required by the law. Police detected the event at 10am.

"Based on police observation, there were about 200 participants at the first gathering point, Maju Junction and another 30 had attended the second rally outside Sogo Complex in the city," he said in a statement tonight.

He said police have opened two investigation papers under Section 9 (5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 on the two separate gatherings.
