MANJUNG: Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for setting his wife on fire at a house in Kampung Bharu here.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said that police were informed of the incident on Monday at about 6.42pm after receiving a call from the husband's sister.
Mohamed Nordin said that initial investigation found that the incident happened after the husband was not satisfied with his wife and his in-law's family who accused him of taking drugs.
"The 33-year-old wife was rushed to the Seri Manjung Hospital and she was pronounced dead by the medical officer at 12.20pm today.
"The post-mortem will be conducted at the hospital tomorrow to ascertain the cause of her death," he said in a statement today.
He added that police had arrested the husband at about 11pm yesterday at a restaurant in Manjung.
"The man has been remanded for a week until July 18 to facilitate the investigation," he said adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
