It was reported on Aug 28 that police had detained nine people, including five women, over the death of a one-year-old boy on Aug 26, believed to have been abused.
This was after police received information from the Seberang Jaya Hospital about a child who was dead after being brought in with abuse marks.
Investigations revealed the child was brought to the hospital by a man in his 30s, who is a suspect in the case. The man had told paramedics that the boy had fainted and needed treatment. He then left the hospital.
Among those detained were the boy's 16-year-old mother, a school dropout, and her 34-year-old boyfriend, the main suspect.
Others detained were the mother's friend, also a 16-year-old dropout, and other family members.
