Security guard rewarded for returning bag with over RM500,000 [NSTTV]

PETALING JAYA: The honest act of a security guard who returned a bag containing over RM500,000 found in the parking lot has been rewarded by his employer.

Sherpa Dawa, 39, from Nepal, today received an award and gift from the security company, A5 Security Service.

The company's director Hardeep Singh Jaswant expressed pride in his staff for handling the incident correctly.

"We greatly appreciate his loyalty to the company and his honesty. They have received adequate training, they know what to do because they do not want to take risks.

"It is a substantial amount, and we greatly appreciate what our guard has done, and that is why we are rewarding him today," he told reporters.

Meanwhile, Dawa, who has been with A5 Security Service for four years, said he is committed to the responsibilities and trust placed on him.

Therefore, without considering the value of the money, Dawa decided to report the matter to the management of the shopping center and the authorities.

"When I found it, I didn't feel afraid at all because we have received training from the company, and then I knew I had a responsibility.

"I didn't think about how much money it was, we just do our job," he said.

In the meantime, Hardeep described Dawa as the best employee and hoped he would continue to serve and safeguard security.

"I hope he will work longer with our company, and I hope his work permit will be extended because we need people like him," he added.

Earlier, Selangor Police chief, Hussein Omar Khan, said they received a report regarding the discovery of a medium-sized red and white suitcase around 8am on Wednesday.

An inspection found the bag contained RM10, RM50, and RM100 banknotes with a total amount exceeding RM500,000 and believed to be genuine.

Yesterday, a company claimed that the RM500,000 in cash in the suitcase found at a shopping centre near Damansara belonged to them.
