Ex-soldier remanded a week to facilitate investigation in wife's murder

KANGAR: A 38-year-old man who fatally stabbed his wife at Jalan Padang Nyor, Arau, has been remanded for seven days to assist in police investigations.

The retired soldier was believed to have murdered a 31-year-old nurse at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) in Kangar, by stabbing her in the left side of chest with a knife at their residence yesterday (Sept 30).

The remand order was issued at 8.45am by magistrate Siti Norhasliza Md Ali at the Kangar magistrate's court after the suspect was brought to court around 8.30am.

Arau district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi confirmed the suspect's remand.

Yesterday, police said the victim's body was found in the bedroom in a pool of blood and covered with a thick blanket after her husband surrendered himself at the Perlis police headquarters at about 10am today.

Police had said the victim is believed to have been stabbed by her husband with a knife in the chest, with the stab wound about two centimetres deep.

Police also said in the 6am incident, the suspect was believed to have been involved in an argument with the victim due to jealousy.

The couple has two children, both boys aged eight and 10.

Police also found a knife, believed to have been used by the suspect, kept in a bag in the kitchen.

Preliminary investigations found that the suspect had a drug-related criminal record. The woman's body was sent to the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital in Kangar before being transferred to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star for a post-mortem. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
