Husband, wife remanded over alleged murder of senior citizen

MARANG: Police have obtained a remand order on a 35-year-old woman and her husband who were arrested to facilitate an investigation into the murder of an elderly woman who was found with 15 stab wounds yesterday.

Magistrate Zur Azureen Zainalkefli granted the seven-day remand order starting today when the couple was produced before her at the magistrate's court here this morning.

The remand order against the woman and her 37-year-old husband was to allow the police to carry out the investigation into the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Earlier, the couple, who were handcuffed and clad in orange lock-up attire arrived at the Marang Court Complex here at about 10am.

Bernama yesterday reported that the body of the victim, 65, was found in a drain near the Hulu Terengganu Religious Office in Kuala Berang.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Mazli Mazlan said the body of victim was found by a security guard from the Hulu Terengganu Religious Office, who then called police at 4.35am.

The victim, he said, who was a government pensioner from Kuala Berang, was ran over by a car before being stabbed by a woman, believed to be her business partner, who works as a seamstress.
