Construction site closed, 32 construction workers detained in Bukit Kiara

KUALA LUMPUR: A construction site was ordered to close, and 32 construction workers detained in Kiara Road, Bukit Kiara near here yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall said that the operation was carried out with police, the Immigration Department, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp), as well as the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia (DOSH).

"A total of 32 construction workers were detained for a comprehensive inspection related to travel documentation and relevant work permits. The inspection involved 24 Bangladeshi citizens, seven Indonesian citizens, and one Indian citizen by JIM and PDRM," City Hall said in a statement on Facebook.

Inspections were conducted both inside and outside the construction area, to determine cleanliness, pathways, construction structure, safety, and permit compliance.

Three compound notices were issued within the construction area, involving two notices under Section 70 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, related to the offense of carrying out earthworks without the local authority's permission, and one notice under Section 69 of the Local Government Act 1976, related to disturbances from the construction site to the public river channel/path.

"DBKL also took action to immediately close and seal the construction site's operations according to Section 70 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.

Meanwhile, the various agencies issued two Stop Work Orders and six Safety Compliance Directive Notices (Mobile Cranes, Scaffolding, Forms, and Supports) to the owners/operators of the construction site through the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and related general offenses.

In addition, CIDB issued an Information Presentation Notice Regarding the Construction Industry (Notice N2/2015) to the main construction contractor within seven days, and SWCORP issued a Regulation Notice (Not Separating Construction Waste Material) according to the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (Establishment of Solid Waste Management and Approval for Construction, Conversion, and Closure Facilities) Regulations 2011," the statement said.
