Cops raid two entertainment centres in Selangor, Johor 'serving' foreign GROs

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal police Criminal Investigation Department's Intelligence and Operations, Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) raided two entertainment centres in Selangor and Johor suspected to have used foreign guest relation officers (GROs) for vice activities.

In Serdang, Selangor, CID deputy director, Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the entertainment centre operation is an open pub concept and a KTV located within the Puchong Industrial Park area. The open pub is situated on the ground level, while the KTV premises are located on the first floor of the building.

"Packages for small, medium, and large KTV rooms start from RM800 to RM2,000. For female hostess services, the rate is RM100 per hour per person, paid directly to the hostess.

"The beer package is priced at RM150 per bucket. Additionally, flower necklace tip payments range from RM50 to RM500, which are paid to the local Chinese sellers who offer necklaces from table to table in the pub.

"There are also direct tips paid to the female hostesses, depending on the customer's satisfaction with their services," he said in a press conference at police headquarters at Bukit Aman today.

Rusdi said the police have arrested a total of 79 individuals including one manager and three members of staff from the entertainment centre. While the remaining were GROs from Thailand, Vietnam and Laos.

Meanwhile in Johor Baru Utara, Johor, Rusdi said the premises were located in the area of a four-storey shophouse in the district where the premises operate from 8pm to 4am daily.

He said the premises operate as an entertainment centre with a live music band and flower garland concept.

"There are two karaoke rooms on the upper floor, each priced at RM 3,000. The premises also provide female hostess services with citizens from Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. The prices for the flower garlands range from RM100 to RM 30,000," he said.

As a result of the operation, the police successfully apprehended a number of foreign female nationals working as hostesses.

"Upon further examination, it was found that none of these hostesses possessed valid work permits," he said.
