Foreign worker stabbed more than 40 times due to jealousy

KOTA BARU: Jealousy is believed to be the motive behind the killing of a Rohingya man who was stabbed more than 40 times yesterday.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the incident happened at about 9am in front of a house in Melor.

Following the incident, police have arrested a Rohingya couple.

He added the 44-year-old victim who was a labourer, died on the spot due to serious injuries.

"Initial investigation showed that the killing was due to the male suspect's jealousy over the victim's affair with his 29-year-old wife.

"Police are also looking for other possible motives behind the killing," he told a Press conference here today.

He said police also seized a knife which was used by the 30-year-old male suspect to kill the victim

He added the body was sent to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination.

"We hope to obtain a remand order against the couple today. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of Penal Code," he said.

Zaki then said the number of crimes involving foreigners were worrying.

"Many of them have been involved in fighting and even in road accidents.

"Due to this, l would like to urge locals to inform the police or their village heads if they came across foreigner settlements in their vicinities," he added.
