Police launch full investigation against co-founder of MYAirline, including past business deals

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking into every aspect of the life of MyAirline co-founder and majority shareholder Goh Hwan Hua, including his complete financial background and past dealings.

Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf told the New Straits Times that the investigation will get the full picture of Goh's dealings, including his businesses prior to the founding of the low-cost airline.

"We have launched a full investigation... not just his financial background as we want to get the full picture even before (he started) MyAirline," he said.

The 57-year-old Hwan Hua, his wife Neow Ean Lee, 55, and 26-year-old son Tze Han were arrested on Tuesday night.

All three were detained to assist in investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

On Oct 12, MyAirline announced the immediate suspension of its operations due to "significant financial challenges".

It was reported that the budget airline company stated that it was "exploring all potential partnership avenues and capital generation" to save its business.

The company had a glimmer of hope when an investor was reported to have agreed to come in, but this fell through soon after.

Companies from which MyAirline had leased its fleet of Airbus A320 narrow-body jets were then reported to have demanded the aircraft back.

However, MyAirline has been adamant in retaining all nine aircraft, with interim accountable executive Datuk Seri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman saying the airline was discussing with lessors to keep all of its aircraft.

MyAirline is reported to be actively looking for new investors.
