Traditional medicine shop assistant gets jail and fine for possessing child pornographic material

TELUK INTAN: A traditional medicine shop assistant was sentenced to six months in jail and fined RM2,500 for keeping child pornographic images and videos.

Magistrate, T. Ashvinii meted out the sentence on Liew Ming Hui, 24, after he pleaded guilty to the charge at the magistrate's court here, today.

Ashvinii also ordered the accused to be sentenced to another five months in jail if he failed to pay the fine.

Liew was charged with possessing pornography and a pornographic video stored in a pen drive at a house in Jalan Besar, RPA 2 Langkap here at 4.20pm on May 29.

He was charged under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which carries imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer, Jude Pereira.

Pleading for leniency, Pereira said his client hac been assisting his father's traditional medicine business and he had repented and regretted his actions.

Izzuddin Fakri however requested the court to give an appropriate sentence against the accused to teach him a lesson as well as to the public.

According to the facts of the case, on May 29, a police team raided the house and seized a laptop, a computer adapter and a pen drive.

Further examination of the pen drive revealed that it contained 19,011 child pornographic documents and videos.
