Police investigate viral slapping video of Kajang school girl

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kajang district police headquarters is investigating a viral video of a student slapping a classmate repeatedly for sharing a picture on social media without her consent.

In a statement, Kajang police said they are investigating the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.

Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a punishment of imprisonment for one year or a fine not exceeding RM2,000 or both while Section 233 of the CMA carries a punishment of a fine not more than RM50,000 or imprisonment for a period of not more than one year or both.

They said the victim lodged a police report yesterday adding that the suspect has also lodged a police report for self-protection.

"Our (police) headquarters confirmed that we received a police report regarding the incident lodged by one of the 17-year-old students involved in the incident of a viral video showing a female student at one of the schools in Kajang roughing up a classmate.

"The result of the investigation of the Oct 20 incident revealed that while one of the students in the video was in class, she saw a humiliating photo of herself on her Tiktok account. The video is said to have been made viral by a classmate. Because of that, the student confronted the classmate and slapped her on her cheek five times while asking why her photo was on her phone," the statement said.

On the other hand, the police said that the classmate (who was slapped) claimed the picture was taken by the suspect herself using her phone.

"As a result of being very angry, the student had slapped her classmate's face which she said had degraded her dignity," it said.

The police have called on anyone with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer Inspector Muhammad Azrul Nizam Zainal Abidin at 016-998 5730 to assist with the investigation.
