Viral 'tudung' wearing Peeping Tom arrested

PASIR GUDANG: The 23-year-old man who donned a headscarf or hijab in order to gain access into a women's toilet at Kipmarat Masai Mall, here, yesterday, has been arrested by police.

It is believed that he was attempting to film women in the toilet before being caught by members of the public who were alerted to him after a woman (a victim) suspected what he was doing and screamed.

The suspect was deliberate in masking his gender identity; he wore women's sandals and also painted his toenails.

Police had made the arrest after a two-minute and 11 second footage of the victim confronting the suspect, while another man was seen holding him down, went viral.

Seri Alam district police chief Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak who confirmed the arrest, said the incident occurred yesterday at 11am at the Kipmart Mall in Taman Bukit Dahlia, here.

"The incident came to light after a video was circulated on social media platforms depicting a man being detained by members of the public, for allegedly peeping in the mall's women's toilet," he said.

The 23-year-old without any prior criminal offences, is in police custody to facilitate investigations under Section 377D of the Penal Code for gross indecency.

If found guilty, he may be faced with up to two-years in prison.

Mohd Sohaimi, who applauded the action of members of the public for detaining the man, also reminded them that it's an offence to injure or harm any individual suspected of committing any criminal offences.
