Swift police response leads to arrest of three in RM1.4mil jewellery heist

KUALA KANGSAR: Police have arrested three men in connection with yesterday's brazen RM1.4 million jewellery heist near a goldsmith shop here.

Kuala Kangsar police chief Assistant Commissioner Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob, said the trio, aged between 20 and 50, were nabbed in Shah Alam, Selangor about 2.10pm yesterday, barely three hours after receiving the initial report.

"While we have successfully apprehended the suspects, the stolen jewellery has not yet been recovered." he said when contacted today.

He said the three suspects have been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations.

It was reported yesterday that two gold merchants in the town were robbed by several masked men, armed with machetes and hammers.

They forcibly broke the car windows of the victims before making off with the valuable items.
