Engineer fined RM1,000 for 'terrorist' graffiti on US embassy wall

KUALA LUMPUR: A 23-year-old project engineer was fined RM1,000 by the magistrate's court for painting the word 'terrorist' on the walls of the United States embassy building on Jalan Tun Razak here.

Magistrate Wong Chai Sia meted out the decision after Ahmad Ridzwan Al Amin Azmin pleaded guilty for committing the offence today.

The court also ordered the accused to serve a month in jail if he failed to pay the fine.

According to the charge sheet, Ahmad Ridzwan was accused of committing mischief by damaging the embassy's property by painting the word 'terrorist' with red paint spray on the outer wall of the embassy between 5.30am and 5.45am on Oct 28.

The offence falls under Section 427 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum of two years imprisonment or a fine or both.

The accused's counsel Muhammad Rhastdan Abdul Wahab pleaded that his client decided to commit the offence to show his dissatisfaction with the conflict in Palestine.

"He just wanted to express his personal views to the embassy and did not intend to cause harm to anyone.

"He also needs to support his mother and grandmother," he said.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Vivien Yeap Jie Xi prosecuted the case.
