Police nab 'bomoh' for moonlighting as burglar

KANGAR: Police have arrested a "bomoh" (shaman) here on Monday in connection with a series of burglary cases in Kangar for the past several months.

Kangar police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the 49-year-old bomoh was arrested together with his 23-year-old accomplice at a house in Repoh here.

Yusharifuddin said police uncovered the bomoh's secret after he stole a sling bag belonging to a sundry shop in Taman Sena here on Sunday.

"Upon stealing the sling bag, the man later returned to the premises and stole a motorcycle belonging to the shop's owner using a key he found in the bag.

"The victim later lodged a police report upon noticing that his motorcycle and sling bag were missing," he said in a press conference at his office here today.

Yusharifuddin said acting on the report, police had arrested the duo at the house about 9pm, less than 24 hours after he pulled off the crime.

He added that police suspected the two individuals, upon interrogation, were additionally accountable for three break-in incidents involving three houses in Kangar.

Yusharifuddin said that various tools used to enter homes were seized by the police during the raid, in addition to the stolen sling bag and motorcycle.

"We have also seized several items linked to previously reported burglary cases such as a laptop, a tablet, external hard disc, USB drive from the suspect's home.

"The bomoh has 16 previous records while his accomplice has eight previous records and both men tested positive for drug abuse," he said.
