Trader fined RM1,500 for owning 41 imitation weapons without permission

MELAKA: A hobby goods trader was fined RM1,500 by the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court here today for possessing 41 pieces of imitation weapons without permission.

Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman imposed the sentence on Hamdihafizi Ab Karim, 33, and ordered him to serve six months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

Hamdihafizi was accused of having 41 pieces of imitation weapons, including pistols, rifles, and broken shotguns, as well as bows and ball bearings without valid permission at premises on Lot 86, Jebat Street Klebang, on the night of August 14.

He was charged under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, which carries a maximum penalty of imprisonment not exceeding one year or a fine not exceeding RM5,000.

Hamdihafizi, who was not represented by a lawyer in his appeal, requested the minimum fine as he only worked as a hobby goods trader, while deputy public prosecutor Nor Asnini Kamarudin sought a fair sentence as a lesson to the accused. --BERNAMA
