Factory worker eyes RM1,500 bike but loses RM25,500 to Tik Tok scam

PEKAN: All a factory worker wanted was to own a second hand Yamaha LC motorcycle priced at RM1,500, but he ended up losing RM25,500 after falling victim to a bogus seller.

The victim in his 50s only realised he was cheated after the scammer instructed him to transfer another RM15,000 to complete his purchase.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the incident unfolded last month when the victim spotted an advertisement on Tik Tok promoting the motorcycle at a bargain price.

"The advertisement was allegedly promoting cheap auction motorcycles by one Kedai Moto Yong Peng. The victim communicated with a man through WhatsApp and agreed to purchase a Yamaha LC 135cc motorcycle at RM1,500.

"The victim was told to transfer the payment online but he ended up making six transactions amounting RM25,500 which consist of various payments but never received the machine. He realised the advertisement was fake when the suspect continued demanding more cash including another RM15,000," he said.

Zaidi said the victim lodged a police report on Nov 4 and the case is investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

He advised the public to check suspicious phone numbers and bank accounts through Check Scammers CCID before making any online transactions.
