Seven cops arrested after burglary suspect's belongings goes missing

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven policemen believed to be stationed at a District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Selangor, have been arrested after being accused of stealing belongings from a man yesterday.

The 40-year-old man, suspected to be involved in a burglary case in Selayang, Selangor, and residing in Ayer Hitam, Penang, was detained by the police on Oct 27.

According to a source, the police subsequently confiscated his belongings and detained him until Nov 3.

"After being released, the victim returned home only to discover that electrical appliances and other items were missing, suspected to have been stolen by the police team conducting the raid.

"He then proceeded to file a police report at the Northeast district police headquarters," he said.

Subsequently, an officer and six police personnel were arrested.

Meanwhile, Penang police chief Datuk Khaw Kok Chin confirmed the incident, stating that the officer and police personnel were arrested yesterday.

"They were remanded for one day and released on police bail yesterday.

"Further investigations are being conducted under Section 380 of the Penal Code," he said when contacted today.
