Cop injured as roadblock rammed by burglary suspects

KUALA LUMPUR: A policeman was injured after a car carrying two burglary suspects crashed through a roadblock at the Damansara Jaya exit of the Sprint Highway here yesterday.

The incident was reported to have occurred around 9.06pm involving a male policeman, a corporal aged 35 who was on duty at the roadblock.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said during the roadblock, a Perodua Myvi suddenly accelerated and collided with the policeman.

The collision caused him to suffer a broken right hand and he was rushed to the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) for treatment.

"A mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) then pursued the suspects' vehicle for two kilometres until it skidded off in Section 17/50 Petaling Jaya.

"We managed to apprehend two men in the vehicle, and further investigation revealed that both are foreign nationals aged around 35 and 45," he said in a statement today.

According to him, a detailed examination of both suspects and the vehicle uncovered various foreign currencies amounting to RM9,839.85, along with several burglary tools such as a hand drill, sledgehammer, scissors, screwdriver and a saw.

"Urine tests for both suspects came back negative for drugs, and background checks showed no previous criminal records.

"The court has granted a six-day remand for both suspects starting from today until Jan 8 for further investigation," he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 28 (i) of the Minor Offenses Act 1955 for the possession of the burglary tools.

Meanwhile, he urged the public with any information related to the crime or suspicious individuals to contact the nearby police station or the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters operations room at 03-79662222.
