Army officer among 307 nabbed by Kelantan police in Ops Tapis Khas

KOTA BARU: An army officer is among 307 people detained by Kelantan police in its series of anti-drug operations codenamed 'Ops Tapis Khas' carried out between Nov 20 to 22.

Kelantan police chief, Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the 307 were arrested for various drug offences including for trafficking and possession of various types of drugs.

He said the operations which covered several districts in Kelantan, involved 164 policemen including 24 officers.

"During the Ops Tapis Khas operations, police have raided 137 areas that we have identified as drug dens.

"Police have successfully nabbed 307 people in the operations and they include 303 men. All aged between 16 to 63 years old," he said in a statement last night.

Zaki said 131 of the 307 people were drug addicts, 40 believed to be part-time drug pushers and others were involved in various drug offences.

"Eighteen of them were wanted persons. Police also seized various drugs worth more than RM67,000 from the operations," he added.

Zaki said methamphetamine pills topped the list of drugs seized, followed by heroin and cannabis.

"The other drugs seized were syabu, cough mixture (containing drugs that can cause drowsiness), Eramin 5, ketum leaves and juice.

"These drugs are for the consumption of more than 6,000 addicts," he added.

In the same operation, Zaki said police have sealed about RM113,000 worth of property belonging to drug pushers which include a number of vehicles and cash.

He added that before Ops Tapis Khas was carried out, the state police had conducted another similar operation codenamed 'Ops Tapis Bersepadu'.

The operation, he said, took place from Nov 16 until Nov 19 where they arrested 164 people for various drug offences.

He added that in the operation, police seized about RM35,000 worth of various types of drugs and sealed properties valued at about RM19,000.
