Final-year students remanded for five days on suspicion of distributing ganja in college

MUAR: Final-year students from a public university here were arrested after the police found ganja in their room in a residential college in Pagoh yesterday.

The four suspects, aged between 21 to 26 were detained on suspicion of distributing the illegal substance at 2.30pm.

Muar district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the police received a call from the security guard at the college about the discovery of 304 grammes of ganja.

He said the ganja was found in a room in a residential college during a security guard's inspection.

"A team of police officers rushed to the location before finding the illegal substance and urine screening tests revealed they were positive for ganja," he said when contacted.

He said the police are still conducting investigations, including identifying the source of the ganja supply.

The suspects have been remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the four suspects were brought to the Magistrate's Court here today to obtain a remand order for the police investigation.

Magistrate Fatin Dalilah Khalid then granted the remand for all suspects for five days starting today.
