Police: College student cries rape to cover pregnancy

JEMPOL: Fearful of being reprimanded by her parents for being pregnant out of wedlock, a 20-year-old college student yesterday lodged a false report claiming that she was a victim of rape.

Acting on the woman's report lodged at Batu Kikir police station at 7.29pm, she was summoned to have her statement recorded on the claims she made.

District police chief Superintendent Hoo Chang Hook said the student claimed that she was raped at a house in Kampung Serting Ilir, Bahau near here at about an hour before she lodged the report.

"The student claimed the incident took place after a man who wore a mask and black attire broke into her house.

"A forensics team was dispatched and it conducted an investigation at the scene when the alleged incident took place. However, it did not find any specimen or semen stain," he said.

The student was also sent to the Jempol Hospital for the medical inspection and received the necessary treatment.

"The medical inspection showed the student did not suffer any injuries and that she was five months pregnant," Hoo said.

Upon inspecting the student's mobile phone, Hoo said the police found a conversation which they deemed suspicious between the student and her boyfriend.

During interrogation, she admitted to lodging a false report and that the claims were fabricated.

"The student had lodged the false report for fear that her family would find out about her conceiving her boyfriend's baby," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code.
