Duo nabbed with 74kg of cannabis worth RM230,000

KUALA KRAI: Police have detained a man and a woman and seized nearly RM230,000 worth of cannabis in an operation here yesterday.

However, another man managed to escape.

Deputy district police chief Deputy Superintendent Kamarulzaman Harun said the two were arrested by police patrolmen about 11.35am.

"A patrol team was conducting routine survelliance at a petrol station in Telekong when they spotted a Proton Wira coming from the direction of Kota Baru and heading towards Gua Musang.

"Seeing the police vehicle, the driver of the Wira began speeding off. Police then decided to chase the car.

"In a short chase, the patrol team managed to stop the vehicle when it arrived in Bukit Sireh.

"After inspecting the car, they found five boxes containing cannabis weighing 74kg and worth RM229,400.

"Police then arrested a man and a woman, though another man managed to escape on foot," he said in a statement.

Kamarulzaman said the arrested duo said they and the other man who had escaped had been hired by drug pushers to send the cannabis to their buyers.

He added that the other man who had escaped was the husband of the woman.

"The male suspect tested positive for drug use while the woman tested negative.

"The two, aged 25 and 39, have been remanded for seven days beginning today to assist police investigations into the case," he added.
