13-year-old accused of molesting 14 special needs students at secondary school

KEPALA BATAS: Police have detained a 13-year-old on suspicion of molesting about 14 boys, believed to be persons with disability, at a secondary school here recently.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Asri Shafie said police received a report from the school's principal about the incident allegedly happening at the school's dormitory.

He said all the victims, aged 13 and 14, have various degrees of disabilities, from visibility, hearing impairment, autism and slow learning.

"We detained the suspect yesterday for further investigation.

"The case is probed under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017," he said tonight.

Mohd Asri said under Section 19 of the same Act, failure to provide information on any wrongdoing is liable to a fine.

"We urge the people not to hide any information on sexual offences against children as such incidents can cause one's mental and emotional well-being," he added.
