Fate of man in fatal 2019 road rage incident to be known on Dec 7

SHAH ALAM: The fate of former information technology (IT) officer Yew Wei Liang will be known on Dec 7. (Thursday).

This was after High Court Judge Julia Ibrahim, who was set to deliver her sentence today, heard the application from defence counsel Wee Choo Keong for a postponement.

Wee had applied for a postponement to Dec 8 (Friday) to enable his team to conduct proper research on the amended charge under Section 304(a) from Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Julia, however, fixed Dec 7 as she did not want the case to be further delayed.

Yew was spared the death sentence earlier today after the High Court amended his murder charge to culpable homicide.

He was initially charged with the murder of bank manager Syed Muhammad Danial Syed Shakir in a road rage incident which took place on the North-South Expressway (NSE) in 2019.

However, High Court Judge Julia Ibrahim, in delivering her judgment, amended the initial charge against Yew, under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, to Section 304(a) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
