KPDN seize three Thai pickups smuggling subsided diesel

ALOR STAR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry seized three Thailand-registered pick-up trucks for breaching the daily maximum 20 litre diesel purchase along the Malaysia-Thailand border towns on Monday.

The ministry's state director Affendi Rajini Kanth said the seizure was done after the pick-up trucks drivers repeatedly filled up the vehicles based on surveillance by the ministry's enforcement

"The driver, a local man and two Thai nationals are suspected to have been refuelling their respective vehicle from early Monday morning until the evening.

"Based on surveillance and undercover by our enforcement officers in several fuel stations, the foreign vehicles refuelled diesel repeatedly in separate stations.

"This is against the ministry's regulation which limits the sale of subsidised diesel to just 20 litres daily," he said in a statement.

Affendi added the syndicate has been active applying the modus operandi in Malaysia-Thailand border towns.

The total value of seized vehicles is estimated at about RM240,000, while the 180 litres of diesel is valued at about RM387.
