MRT flasher fined RM2,000

KUALA LUMPUR: A man who flashed his private part to a woman on the Mass Rail Transit train on Dec 5 was told off by a magistrate for his misconduct.

Magistrate Wong Chai Sia said the action of 31-year-old Ngu Chee Liang, who had exposed his privates to a woman while in the train carriage, had caused distress.

"Your act sparked fear because the offence was committed in a public place," she said.

She said this before handing a RM2,000 fine against the jobless man after he pleaded guilty to outraging modesty of a woman under Section 509 of the Penal Code.

The offence carries a maximum five years jail or fine or both.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Vivien Yeap Jie Xi urged the court to impose fair punishment as Ngu's actions had intimated the victim.

However, Ngu, who was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Sukdesh Francis Xavier, asked for a light sentence on grounds that the accused cares for his mother.

Earlier, Sentul district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said Ngu was arrested in Bandar Sungai Long Kajang, Selangor at 11.40pm on Dec 11.

He said police received a report on the incident from a 22-year-old woman at 9.32pm on Dec 5.

Preliminary investigations show that the incident took place as the woman was en route from the Kepong Baru station to the Metro Prima station in Kuala Lumpur.

Ngu, upon being questioned by the police, had admitted to the act. He was subsequently remanded for investigations.#
