No new leads in Zayn Rayyan murder investigation - IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: No new credible leads have emerged in the investigation of six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin's murder, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

"We have not got any new leads yet, but the investigation remains open and ongoing."

Razarudin said this when asked for the latest developments of the ongoing murder investigation.

Up till yesterday, the police forensics unit was still combing the scene for any possible new leads, and inspected seven vacant units at Block R of Apartment Idaman in Damansara Damai.

The team also met two young children who are believe to be the last ones to see the autistic boy alive in the apartment vicinity, since he was reported missing on the afternoon of December 5.

The two children allegedly saw the victim alive, walking near the apartment, less than 200m from where his body was later discovered the next day at almost 10pm.

Earlier, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan told media that police have recorded more that 150 witness statements, obtained dashcam recordings, and also lifted DNA and fingerprints believed to be of the suspects from Zayn Rayyan, during the autopsy.

Zayn Rayyan's body was found in a creek near a water reservoir 200 metres from his family's home in Block R, Idaman Apartments at about 10pm on December 6, about 34 hours since he was reported missing by the family.

His death was first suspected to be caused drowning but was later reclassified as homicide after an autopsy found strangulation marks and defence injuries to the child's neck and body.
