Pahang police seize drugs worth RM2.67 million last year

KUANTAN: The Pahang police seized various drugs worth RM2.67 million and confiscated proceeds as well as properties from the illegal activities, totalling RM2.63 million, last year.

State police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) successfully made 14,078 arrests for various drug-related offences, an increase from 12,695 arrests in 2022.

"A total of 649 cases were prosecuted under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and initiatives to enhance enforcement under this section were undertaken, namely imposing longer prison sentences of not less than five years and caning on repeat offenders.

"As for actions against dealers under the Special Preventive Measures (LLPK), 78 arrests were made, while last year's Op Indera successfully dismantled eight active drug distribution syndicates with 22 arrests," he told reporters here today.

In a related development, he said the Criminal Investigation Department's statistics recorded 1,873 cases last year, a drop of 11 cases compared to the previous year, mainly observed in Kuantan, Pekan and Bera districts.

Yahaya also said that Lipis district recorded the highest crime resolution rate at 84.21 per cent, followed by Pekan at 77.55 per cent, while districts that recorded over 70 per cent included Raub, Bera, Maran, Rompin and Cameron Highlands.

For commercial crimes, he said 9,026 reports were received and 2,399 investigation papers were opened, involving losses exceeding RM59 million.

Some 1,625 arrests were made last year, an increase of 31.7 per cent from 1,234 arrests made in 2022, he added.Meanwhile, Yahaya said 23,591 accident cases and 443 fatalities were recorded in 2023, an increase from 22,511 cases and 395 deaths the previous year.

The Pahang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department also issued 153,369 summonses, arrested 140 individuals and seized 456 vehicles for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 last year.

Regarding disciplinary actions, Yahaya said 386 officers, personnel and public officers were subjected to disciplinary actions last year, including dismissals, demotions, warnings, suspension from duty and reprimands. - Bernama
